Subaru Tecnica International is the touchstone of all Subaru motorsport and performance vehicles. Since 1988, STI engineers have tuned, tested, and retuned everything from complete vehicles to hand-built engines to race-ready parts. 2019 S209

The first S-model to be offered in the U.S., the S209 is the most powerful, best-handling, and most exciting vehicle STI has ever created. From the intake through the turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine to the drivetrain and down to the exhaust, STI engineers retuned the WRX STI into something new, with 341 horsepower[1] and a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 5 seconds[2]. The suspension, Brembo® brakes, and chassis were upgraded and modified for even better cornering, traction, and response. Every new S-model becomes the new standard for STI engineering, and the S209 is no exception.

2020 WRX STI Series.White

The 2020 WRX STI Series.White showcases eye-catching new upgrades in both design and performance. Sporting a unique new Ceramic White exterior color and limited to 500 units, it features a high-performance Bilstein® sport-tuned suspension and Brembo brakes with silver calipers for exceptional cornering and stopping ability. BBS matte bronze-finished 19-inch forged alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires give extra grip and stability. Recaro® performance front seats and Keyless Access with Push-Button Start deliver a final touch of comfort and convenience.

2020 WRX STI

The 2020 WRX STI represents the Subaru Tecnica International philosophy of balanced engineering – exhilarating power controlled by intuitive handling. A turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine with a large-capacity intercooler produces 310 horsepower, 290 pound-feet of torque, and breathtaking acceleration. The yellow-finished 6-piston front and 2-piston rear Brembo brakes, quick-ratio steering, and sport-tuned suspension let you tackle the trickiest curves. For even more control, the Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) uses a fully electronic control system to vary the front/rear torque distribution for quicker and smoother response. SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia with standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration provides the soundtrack.

2020 BRZ tS

The 2020 BRZ tS – which stands for “tuned by STI” – pushes the famed handling of the BRZ even further. The stiffened chassis and STI-developed sport suspension gives lightning-quick response and razor-sharp control. Brembo brakes offer total confidence and matte bronze-finished 18 x 7.5-inch STI alloy wheels with Michelin® Pilot® Sport summer performance tires hold fast in the corners. Cherry red accents inside and out give a subtle signal that this BRZ has some extra tricks up its sleeve.

STI History

Developing S209 – 1 – STI Test Drive

Rally-Born and Bred

If you trace back the legend of Subaru Tecnica International, you’ll find its seeds were planted in the dirt of a rally course – specifically, the 1972 Australia Southern Cross Rally, where Subaru first entered its Leone model. In 1980, the Leone 4WD became the first all-wheel drive car in the World Rally Championship. The official STI founding by Ryuichiro Kuze in 1988 set the stage for more victories and records, like the 100,000-kilometer world speed record set by the STI Legacy with an average speed of 138.780 mph for 447 hours, 44 minutes, and 9.887 seconds, continuously.

Motorsports Competition

STI made its first competition WRC entry with a successful debut at the Safari Rally in 1990 and went on to triumph in the 1993 New Zealand Rally. The next year, STI unveiled the legendary Subaru Impreza WRC model and started a rally dynasty: second overall in 1994, manufacturers’ titles in 1995 and 1996, and a stunning eight of 14 races won in 1997. With 47 WRC wins and counting, STI led Subaru to more rally wins than any other Japanese manufacturer. This success, coupled with the heroics of drivers like Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Petter Solberg, and Toshihiro Arai, would solidify Subaru and STI among the most respected brands in the rally scene. In 2017, STI conquered the racetrack as well – the ultimate performance testing grounds of the Nürburgring, the “Green Hell.” The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special set the fastest four-door lap time ever at 6:57.5 – a record that, as of late 2019, still stands.
