As a marque long-associated with outdoor adventure, Subaru sees the shift to electric automobility as a natural evolution of its brand. A few years ago, the automaker tested the waters by converting the Crosstrek Hybrid into a plug-in model. Now, Subaru is making its electric-only debut with the fully battery-powered 2023 Solterra.

Named after the Latin words for "Sun" and "Earth," Solterra is the first model built on the e-SUBARU Global Platform. With abundant amenities and tech features, real all-season capability, and more than 220 miles of estimated range, Solterra represents Subaru's commitment to delivering its renowned safety, versatility, and adventure-ready spirit in a more environmentally responsible package.

Performance and Charging

The 2023 Subaru Solterra introduces the new StarDrive® electric powertrain, sending 215 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque to a new EV-tuned version of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system. Standard Dual-Function X-MODE® traction management complements the S-AWD system with additional traction settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. It also includes a new Grip Control system with Hill Ascent/Descent Assist, providing sure-footed handling and control beyond the asphalt.

A 72.8-kWh battery pack enables Solterra to travel an estimated 220 (with 20-inch wheels) to 228 miles (18-inch wheels), giving drivers plenty of range to enjoy emissions-free commutes from Longview to Vancouver, WA, or vice-versa. Solterra can complete a full charge overnight in about nine hours with Level 2 (240V) equipment. And at a DC fast-charging station, it takes less than an hour to replenish 80% of the battery's capacity.

Subaru has partnered with EVgo-the first fast-charging network in the US powered by 100% renewable energy-to provide Solterra owners access to over 45,000 public charging stations across the country, including nearly 3,000 fast-chargers.

Interior, Technology, Safety

Solterra's interior is comfortable and inviting, with roomy passenger accommodations, modern design details, quality materials, and seats that provide long-distance comfort. The cabin features a configurable cargo area with a low liftover height, making it easy to load heavier items. Capacity behind the rear seats measures 27.7 cubic feet and is expandable to 29.9 cubes by lowering the two-position cargo floor, and offers even more with the rear seats folded.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enable smartphone integration without clutter, giving you easy access to hands-free calls and messages, maps and navigation, and streaming media. And with Subaru Solterra Connect (SSC), Gresham drivers can use their smartphone to remotely lock/unlock the doors, start/stop the engine, and even adjust the climate controls ahead of their journey.

Solterra comes standard with a full range of advanced safety features, including Subaru's innovative EyeSight® driver-assist assist, providing an extra degree of confidence and convenience out on the road. Standard driving aids include:

Note: The initial round of Solterra orders has finished, and reservation holders have until May 25, 2022, to discuss financing and feature changes and convert to a sold older. Canceled orders will have their deposit fully refunded within six to eight weeks.
